Student View: An accounting work experience day with PwC

Juan is a 17-year-old business and finance BTEC student aiming at launching two of his personal projects in South America. With a keen interest in FinTech (Financial Technology), Juan was thrilled to be specially chosen to attend PwC's work experience day. As one of The Big Four, PwC offers school leavers a range of careers (in areas such as audit, consulting, deals, tax and tech) so it's no surprise that Juan wanted to meet professionals on this day!

How did you prepare for your PwC work experience event?

I prepared for this event by researching who PwC are and what they do, I read a lot of articles about the company and I watched videos of current employees that shared their experience with PwC.

I also prepared some questions to ask the speakers.

Fortunately for an online event, I did not have any tech issues. The event was very interactive, we had the chance to ask questions and give answers on a website called sli.do which I found very cool.

What did you enjoy most about the event?

Charlotte and Hannah were the main speakers that stood out most to me, this is particularly because they were very open about their experience and their career story, this motivates me to become a PwC member in the future. Their advice was also very helpful and informative.

Charlotte talking through career paths with the attendees

Charlotte explained how great her experience has been so far and she was also giving us tips on how shine in the workplace. She was telling us how she does not have an specific task for every day since they have different tasks daily which makes the job role really interesting as you are going to be doing something different everyday, such as speaking to people, travelling to different places for business meetings and many more.

Do you have any advice for students interested in a similar career path to you?

My advice for students would be to prepare good questions based on what you have heard the speakers say as this can make you stand out from other.

Communication with other students and speakers through the chat is vital!

This is because it shows that you are interacting and attentive throughout.

Uptree thanks Juan for sharing his experiences of this work experience day and we wish him all the best in his studies and future projects.
