Faiza’s success story
Like many people, at sixth form, Faiza found she didn’t know much about the world of work. What she did know is that she wanted to pursue a career in law, but didn’t know how to get there.
“I had very little understanding of how a law firm operates let alone how to approach the application process for solicitor apprenticeships. The legal world seemed like a really complex place and I wasn’t sure where to start.”
Faiza attended Uptree work experience days with top law firms Mishcon de Reya and Norton Rose Fulbright at their offices in London and suddenly everything became clearer.
“[T]hese events were a pivotal experience for me because they demystified the inner workings of law firms and provided practical advice on navigating the application process. For example, the networking opportunities at these events enabled me to connect with professionals who shared invaluable insights and advice. I also recall participating in a legal mock activity at Mishcon de Reya, which was extremely useful in providing me with a broad understanding of the legal field and made a significant difference during the application season.”
After completing her A-levels, Faiza chose to take a gap year, focusing on applying for Solicitor Apprenticeships, whilst working on an internship in Public Relations, improving the key transferable skills vital for her future career. This earnt her a prestigious place on DLA Piper’s Solicitor Apprenticeship programme, starting in September 2024.
“I am really passionate about qualifying as a solicitor via the apprenticeship route because I believe it provides an unparalleled opportunity to gain legal exposure and the necessary skills to excel in the legal profession.”
“If I could say one thing to students it is to be resilient. While the application process for Solicitor Apprenticeships can be highly competitive, persistence and determination are key to achieving your goals.”
