  • Apprenticeship

    You could do:

    • information communications technician apprenticeship
    • digital support technician apprenticeship
    • software engineering apprenticeship

    You'll usually need:

    • 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 or National 5s at grades A to C, or equivalent, including English and maths, for an advanced apprenticeship or foundation/modern apprenticeship
  • College

    You could do a college course, which may help you find a trainee job. Courses include:

    • Level 2 Certificate in IT Support
    • Level 3 Diploma in ICT Professional Competence

    You'll usually need:

    • 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 or National 5s at grades A to C, or equivalent, including English, maths and computing
  • University

    There are many options for degree and postgraduate qualifications in engineering and technology.

    You could study:

    • artificial intelligence and robotics
    • mechanical or electronics engineering
    • computer science or mathematics

    If you have a qualification in psychology or cognitive science, you could also work in the development of artificial intelligence.

    You'll usually need:

    • 2 or 3 A levels or Scottish Highers, or equivalent, including maths and physics
    • a degree in a relevant subject for postgraduate study
  • Work

    You could start working after taking GCSEs or A levels, or National 5s or Scottish Highers and train on jobs like:

    • IT technician
    • chemical engineering technician
