Work Experience at Penguin Random House
As part of our aims to make publishing more inclusive, we want to break down barriers to entering the industry and make sure it’s open and accessible to everyone.
We took steps towards this by offering all places based on random selection and stopping all personal referrals. By paying everyone who completes work experience with us the National Living Wage, we hope to open up this opportunity to even more people. This is why places are offered based on and are paid the National Living Wage – calculated at £7.50 per hour or £262.50 per week.
At the same time, we’ve partnered with The Book Trade Charity (BTBS) to offer subsidised accommodation for one placement every two weeks. We’re really excited about this and hope it makes work experience more possible for those travelling from outside of London.
We only ask that applicants are over 18 when they begin their placement, have not done a placement with us in the last six months and have the right to work and train in the UK.
This is a great opportunity for people to spend two weeks shadowing one of the departments, such as Editorial, Marketing, Publicity or Sales, to experience the workplace and exciting world of publishing. During their time with us, they will be exposed to a range of experiences to help them to understand what to expect from working in a publishing house.
