J.P. Morgan is a leading global financial services firm and, surprisingly, the world's 7th largest technology company. Uptree students regularly attend work experience days at their Canary Wharf offices and network with their professionals at various FuturesUP events.

We had a short catch up with Ahmed Kepil, a Year 13 student from the London Academy of Excellence (Tottenham), about his recent telephone interview with J.P. Morgan.

Ahmed has an avid interest in investment banking and has already attended several other Uptree work experience days, including UBS and Credit Suisse , so he's a good example of a proactive young person aiming high.

How did you prepare for your interview?

Ahmed told us that he subscribed to industry-relevant companies' news feeds and constantly read their notifications.

This is something which is easy to do on LinkedIn in the 'interests' section and when you comment, the platform algorithms place your profile more visibly in future searches; this is important to make you stand out to future employers in these companies.

Ahmed also researched the company and did practice interviews with friends and family. Whilst this can feel embarrassing at first, it's better to make any silly mistakes in front of people you feel comfortable with!

What advice would you give others in the same position?

Ahmed encourages others to ' remain focused on your goal - keep motivated and dedicated in everything you do '. This is simple but effective advice because regardless of the support of friends and family, motivation has to be internal and authentic.

Ahmed told us that he had learnt to have confidence in what he was doing as a career in investment banking is something he really wholeheartedly wishes to pursue.
