Apprenticeship
Depending on the position, you could do:
- Advertising and Media Executive advanced or foundation/modern apprenticeship
- Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 intermediate or foundation apprenticeship
- Customer Service Specialist Level 3 advanced or foundation/modern apprenticeship
- Digital Engineering Technician Level 3 advanced or foundation/modern apprenticeship
- Design Level 4 higher or modern apprenticeship
Media apprenticeships take around 18 months to complete.
Digital apprenticeships take around 3 years to complete.
You'll find it useful to have:
- some GCSEs or National 5s, usually including English and maths, or equivalent, for an intermediate or foundation apprenticeship
- 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 or National 5s at grades A to C, or equivalent, including English and maths, for an advanced or modern apprenticeship
- 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) or National 5s at grades A to C, and A levels or Scottish Highers, or equivalent, for a higher or degree, or graduate apprenticeship

Depending on the route you are interested in, you could take a college course:
- Level 1 Certificate in Customer Service
- Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Working in Customer Service
- Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Marketing
- 3D Computer-Aided Design
- T level in Design
Entry requirements for the courses vary, but you'll usually need:
- 2 or fewer GCSEs at grades 3 to 1 (D to G), or equivalent, for a level 1 course
- 2 or more GCSEs at grades 9 to 3 (A* to D), or equivalent, for a level 2 course

Depending on the position, you'll usually need a foundation degree, higher national diploma or degree in a subject like:
- Advertising and Marketing
- Statistics or Operational Research
- Communication and Media Studies
- Business or Management
- Psychology
- Design and Technology
You can apply for graduate roles in advertising agencies like Junior Media Planner if you have a degree.
You'll usually need:
- 1 or 2 A levels, Scottish Highers or equivalent, for a foundation degree or higher national diploma
- 2 to 3 A levels, Scottish Highers or equivalent, for a degree

Work
Employers may take you on as a trainee. They would then support you through training to gain your qualifications.
You'll usually need:
- 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 or National 5s at grades A to C, and
- 2 A levels or Scottish Highers, in subjects like maths, science, IT and technology. Equivalent qualifications may be accepted
You can then work your way up as your experience in advertising grows.
