Government Legal Department
The Government Legal Department is the government’s principal legal adviser. Our work touches on many aspects of public life. We advise on the development and delivery of government policy, help prepare legislation and represent the government in court. GLD is one of the largest legal organisations in the country and the largest employer in the Government Legal Profession. Our people work across advisory, litigation, employment and commercial law, as well as corporate professions including communications, digital, finance, legal operations, people and policy. GLD offers legal and corporate careers at the heart of government. There are many routes into GLD and the wider Government Legal Profession, including apprenticeships, paralegal roles, legal trainee opportunities, pupillage, qualified lawyer roles and corporate professions.
