National: Baker McKenzie, Law Insight Day In person event
This event is for: Year 12/S5 students interested in finding out more about areas of Law, Baker McKenzie and applying for their 'BEGINNINGS at Baker McKenzie' programme (an 18 month development programme for year 12 or equivalent ie first year college students interested in a career in Law).
Travel expenses up to £100 are covered for this insight event so those outside of London are encouraged to apply.
About the BEGINNINGS programme:
Students will need Grade 4+ in GCSE English and Maths to access the programme.
If applying to this event with a view to applying for the 'BEGINNINGS at Baker McKenzie' programme students from outside of London would need to ensure they can commit to the following in-person events:
- 1 in-person launch event: date to be confirmed
- 3 day summer work experience: dates to be confirmed
- All other session will be virtual

'BEGINNINGS at Baker McKenzie' runs for 18 months and throughout the programme successful applicants will attend regular, engaging events (virtual and in-person) including skills sessions, networking opportunities and a summer work experience placement. Each student will also be assigned a mentor to support them throughout the programme.
Who should attend - Applicants must:
- Attend, and have attended from age 11, a state-funded, non-fee-paying school/college
- Be available to attend the 3 day work experience: dates to be confirmed
You must also meet one or more of the following
- You have been, or are currently, in local authority care.
- You are currently in receipt of, or have previously received, free school meals, Pupil Premium, Education Maintenance Allowance and/or 16 to 19 Bursary.
- You are, or have been, a full-time or part-time carer.
- You came to the UK as a refugee or asylum seeker.
- The occupation of your main household earner is categorised as a routine or manual occupation. A summary of this can be found here.
- You are attending a state school or college with:
a) below average A-Level or Higher point score and/or
b) low rate of progression to higher education
(PRIME Work Experience School Eligibility Criteria). - You grew up in a household where no parent or guardian attended University.
