  • grow your client relationships
  • work four days a week alongside BDB Pitmans' solicitors and partners
  • study one day a week for your law degree, LLB in Legal Practice and Skills and later your Solicitor Qualifying Exams (SQEs) awarded by the University of Law.

Salary and Benefits:

You will earn a competitive salary, increasing as you progress through the programme. By your fifth year, your salary will match that of a graduate trainee solicitor. Benefits include:

  • At least £150 towards getting you set up for working from home
  • Holiday: 25 days per year with the option to buy up to 5 days extra annual leave
  • Private medical care
  • Pension scheme
  • Interest-free season ticket loan and cycle to work scheme
  • One paid CSR day per year to support the causes that matter to you

Key skills:

BDB Pitmans LLP do not expect you to have legal work experience! Remember, you will have gained transferable skills from across many areas of your life, whether that be academic, extracurricular, volunteering, caring or part time jobs to name but a few so do draw upon your experiences

  • Resilience and commitment: The apprenticeship is a 6 year course, so we want to know you have sticking power! What examples can you give when you have encountered a problem and what did you do to overcome it? Have you been involved in a club or sport or activity for an extended period of time that could demonstrate commitment?
  • Organisational and communication skills: Why do you want to become a solicitor and what is it about the role that interests you? What has motivated you?
  • Attention to detail: If possible, ask someone else to check through your application before you submit it for any typos. Have you actually answered the question being asked?
  • Collaborative skills: Are you a team player? Do you enjoy working in a team? What qualities do you think a good team worker has?
  • Adaptability and the ability to take the initiative: How do you cope with change? Can you come up with fresh ideas or problem-solve with minimal guidance?
  • Commercial curiorsity: What do you do to stay up to date with trends in the legal field? What area of the law interests you the most and why? Why are you specifically interested in applying to BDB Pitmans?
  • A positive attitute to learn and develop: Solicitors are always learning and developing their skills. How can you show us your love of learning? What do you do to progress further? This doesn’t have to be academically but in any area of your life.
  • Career motivation: Why do you want to become a solicitor and what is it about the role that interests you? What has motivated you?
