Who are Pen Underwriting?

Pen Underwriting are a part of Gallagher. They’re a market leading, forward thinking virtual insurer with an international reputation, who insure everything from takeaways through to international cyber threats.

Their culture is based around their One Pen initiative, which involves things like charity fundraising, an active Inclusion and Diversity Committee, and agile working. The role is an exciting opportunity for an entry-level Assistant Underwriter to join the Pen team, supporting the underwriting decisions and risk management for well-known brands and businesses. It’s an amazing chance to work with some leading industry talent whilst learning directly from them.

Who are Gallagher?

Gallagher is a leading insurance, risk management, and consulting firm that works with internationally recognised brands across 150 countries, employing over 30,000 people world-wide to deliver their quality risk management solutions.

The Gallagher Way encompasses the shared values that guide and inspire the organisation, and as a member of the global insurance and brokerage team, you’ll apply this when helping clients address risk, protect assets, and recover from losses.

What is an Underwriter

To underwrite insurance means to accept financial responsibility for clients' potential losses. Underwriters decide whether to accept an insurance application, and what the terms, conditions and cost of the insurance policy would be.

What is the Trainee Underwriting Scheme?

You'll be part of the underwriting team and have the opportunity to provide best in class service to some of their existing accounts, with the expertise of an experienced underwriter by your side. In addition to the below, Pen Underwriting are looking for colleagues who love a challenge and can rise to any occasion, such as dealing with insurance brokers during renewal negotiations.

Who can apply?

The entry requirements for the scheme are 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English, or equivalent at Grade C/4. Students with predicted A-levels can also apply, and the scheme is open to those with a strong interest in the insurance industry.

Most suitable applicants can demonstrate strong communication skills, a love for the details (as well as being highly numerate), and have a problem solving approach coupled with initiative and a dedicated attitude.

Please note, this is a full time trainee role and would not be suited for a placement year, as an internship, or for those looking to go to univeristy.

How do I apply?

Please email Ari Zastawna who is Gallagher's Human Resources specialist, with an expression of interest: ari_zastawna@ajg.com

Ari will then arrange a discovery telephone call with you to speak more about the role.
