About the Software Development Graduate Apprenticeship (Scotland).

Qualifications: Study for a fully funded BSc (Hons) in Software Development with Edinburgh Napier University. Training and costs will be taken care of.

Duration: 4 years

Salary: £27,400 + fantastic benefits

Love coding, solving puzzles and building things that people use every day? Step this way.

Lloyds Banking Group is the UK’s biggest digital bank, and it continues to invest heavily in cloud platforms, AI and next generation engineering. As a Software Development Apprentice, you’ll be coding, testing and building the digital tools that millions of people and businesses rely on every day, rather than watching from the sidelines.

Over four years you’ll split your time between Edinburgh Napier University and Lloyds Banking Group, learning the theory in class and then putting it straight into practice on real projects. In Scotland, a Graduate Apprenticeship is a degree level programme that you start straight from school or college, so you’ll graduate with your degree at the end rather than needing one to apply. You’ll also have dedicated time for your development along with a mentor, a manager and a buddy to support you.

Your modules will build year by year, starting with software design, maths for engineering, human-computer interaction, data science with Python and computer systems, then moving on to databases, object-oriented development, algorithms, web technology and engineering methods, before finishing with software architecture, cyber security and an honours project. You could be:

  • Building and testing real digital products that customers use every day.
  • Helping Lloyds Banking Group push the limits of AI, data and cloud technology.
  • Solving problems across cyber security, payments and mobile apps.
  • Working in agile teams and taking part in hackathons.
  • Developing your skills in Python, Java, databases, web technology and cloud platforms.
  • Learning how to deliver technology that is safe, ethical and inclusive.

By the end of the programme you’ll have a fully funded BSc (Hons) in Software Development and four years of hands-on experience working on one of the UK’s largest technology transformations, giving you skills that can lead to careers from specialist software engineering to digital leadership.
