Ambassador View: What to include in your LinkedIn profile

Hi. My name is Pranay and I’m currently a Year 13 student studying Information Technology. In this blog, I’ll be explaining and giving my main tips on what should be included in your LinkedIn profile.

I’m going to look at:

  • About you
  • Work experience
  • Skills and qualifications
  • Recommendations/skills endorsement

About you section:

The about you section is vital on a LinkedIn profile as it helps recruiters find out a bit more about you. This will allow recruiters to find out about your passions, interests and the career path you’re looking to pursue. Giving a strong and effective summary about yourself will help you stand out from other candidates when applying for jobs. This is because recruiters can cross check social media platforms to ensure that your CV matches your LinkedIn profile. It also allows recruiters to find extra information about you such as experience, extra qualifications and activities which you're interested in.

Work experience:

It's important to include information about your past work experiences. This allows recruiters to be aware that you’ve got relevant experience and show them you’re the candidate they’re looking for. It's also important to highlight responsibilities that you had in that specific role. By including a bullet point format below your experience, you’ll show you’re suitable for a future role.

Skills and qualifications:

It's important to include your relevant skills and qualifications. Certain industries are constantly growing and changing, so by showcasing qualifications or skills in that field, it shows that you’ve taken the initiative to keep up to date with the sector. It also shows that you’re keen to grow and excel within that field.

Recommendations/skills endorsement:

If you've completed any work experiences, it would be beneficial to gain recommendations or endorsement for skills that you demonstrated during that placement. This will show that you’ve got skills which can be vouched for such as communication, teamwork, and leadership. Recommendations show future recruiters that you’re a skilled candidate.

Overall, it’s extremely important and valuable to make your LinkedIn profile standout. This will help employers find out more about you, give you an advantage and provide recruiters with insight into your interests, hobbies and qualifications to help you find an amazing job that's right for you.
