Destiny's success story
In sixth form, Destiny loved the subjects she was studying, but was undecided on what to do next. Based on pressure from her family, Destiny attended a couple of law work experience events and even applied to a solicitor apprenticeship role at an entertainment law firm but knew something didn’t feel right.
“You will grow up being drawn to certain things. When you are younger you are so tapped into your purpose but you don’t know it… For me, that was an apprenticeship as I knew I didn’t want to go to university, I knew I was a social person and I wanted to be in the work environment… When I was in the law firms, it was alright but I wasn’t really clicking with it.”

With this in mind, Destiny considered other industries she could work in and started considering a career in marketing and media. Through Uptree, she learnt about Publicis Groupe.
“I was part of this apprentice community that helped aspiring apprentices to get into different apprenticeships and somebody had linked an Uptree work experience day with Publicis and I thought ‘oh this is a cute little session I could go to’. I didn’t know anything about Publicis or Uptree. I just applied and ended up going. I didn’t even know they had apprenticeships at Publicis. I went to the event and I loved it. I thought the culture, everyone and the work was so cool. I just loved everything.”
Destiny decided to apply for an apprenticeship and found that attending the Publicis Groupe event enabled Destiny to stand out even more in her Publicis Groupe apprenticeship application.
“I think what contributed to my success getting here was definitely that work experience. I think if they hadn't met me at that work experience, I don’t think I would have been able to land this apprenticeship. Once a recruiter sees that you have been to that company before automatically they are like ‘yeah, we like her’. Also I was able to meet their Senior Talent Acquisition Partner, Jack, and he was able to remember me. You can make a memorable impression on these insight days. You think no one's watching, but people are always watching, so I think that’s what definitely helped me get into this company.”
Destiny is now completing a Client Services apprenticeship with the Publicis Groupe agency Digitas.
“When picking your career you have to be really true to yourself and your desires and not what other people say you should do because I feel like you could be successful in anything… You can literally do anything. As long as you are true to what you love, you’ll be fine.”
