Making the most of your summer

Summer is here, and it's the perfect time to get some well-earned rest and enjoy the sunshine while also boosting your skills and knowledge and preparing yourself for the world of work. In this blog, we'll dive into how you can make the most of your summer holidays through the Uptree Platform. Let's make this summer count!

After meeting up with your friends, maybe you’ll have some time to look at the resources on the Uptree Platform. We highly recommend exploring our Careers Guide to learn useful information and tips on different career routes into leading industries across the UK. We may be biased, but we think it’s a great tool to help you make informed choices about your future, whether you're looking to learn more about a specific path or not sure what you want to do when you leave school.

Why not spend some time creating a killer CV or cover letter using the templates on our Student Resource Hub? Or explore our online careers courses to enhance your employability skills and knowledge of specific industries, such as 'Introduction to the National Cyber Force' and 'Introduction to Life Sciences with ATAC'. These courses have been developed in partnership with the National Cyber Force and ATAC, and they are an amazing way to gain insight into specific industries. The best part is that you can pause and resume your course whenever you want throughout the summer holidays and beyond.

If you’re looking to discover companies in the industries you’re interested in, our companies page helps you explore the organisations we work with and their offers directly to you. This includes job openings, events and more. You can bookmark any companies that look good, and you will be sent an email when they have any events, courses, or vacancies.

When you’re ready, browse jobs and placements with leading employers on the Uptree Platform, including apprenticeships. Work experience is a great way to learn useful skills and get into the career you want to pursue. Have you ever considered volunteering? One important thing that volunteering can do for you is boost your confidence and give you useful new skills and experiences. Uptree also has a variety of blogs; some of them are about volunteering, such as ‘Ambassador View: Volunteering’ and ‘Ambassador View: Benefits of Volunteering.’ In these blogs, young people share their own stories and talk about how volunteering is important and also fun:

“Volunteering is majorly reliant on one’s good will and enthusiasm for the cause, so including this in your CV will help demonstrate these qualities to employers (morality is a quality valued in many industries).”

“Volunteering can be a great way to further explore something that you already have an interest in. For example, if there is a particular sport or activity that you enjoy, a great way to give back could be by offering free lessons and sessions to help out younger people who love the same thing!”

Begin exploring right now to find out what you're really capable of. The most important thing is to remember to relax and have fun. Have a wonderful summer!
